CHILDREN'S FANTASY

Septimus series by Angie Sage

Magyk (Book 1 of the Septimus series) by Angie Sage

Genre: Children's book. Magic. Fantasy.

'Kiddie book' which is a reading pleasure for adults as well

If you are looking for something "academically correct masterpiece", this is probably not your book. But if you are looking for a good read just for the heck of enjoying one, you might just want to pick this one up.

This is the first book of the Septimus Heap series. Tells about the story of the poor but magical Heap family in a kingdom beside a forest. Septimus was stolen at birth by the midwife but the midwife's baby boy was mistakenly taken by the evil sorcerer instead of Septimus. 11 years later Septimus found his family again but its not a happy ever after but a struggle against evil. Of course the story was not as straightforward as that. It has twists and turns that makes this book an enjoyable book on a lazy Sunday morning.

Also recommending the sequels to this book, Flyte and Physik.

The official website for this series can be found at: http://www.septimusheap.com

Caption at the back reads:

Evil necromancer DomDaniel is plotting his comeback. Having 'executed' the most daringly ruthless part of his plan, one obstacle remains. But this obstacle, although small, is proving to be a challenge, and DomDaniel is not fond of challenges he hasn't created personally. They tend not to live for long... unless, that is, they happen to be a member of the Heap family.

Let the Magyk, Mayhem and incredible chase begin in this spellbinding adventure filled with cunning, deception and wonderful characters.

Caption at the back reads:

Warning: Not to be Read after Dark.

“The Spook’s trained many, but precious few completed their time,” Mam said, “and those that did aren’t a patch on him. They’re flawed or weak or cowardly. They walk a twisted path taking money for accomplishing little. So there’s only you left now, son. You’re the last chance. The last hope. Thomas Ward is the seventh son of a seventh son and has been apprenticed to the local Spook. The job is hard, the Spook is distant and many apprentices have failed before him. Somehow Thomas must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches and bind boggarts. But when he is tricked into freeing Mother Malkin, the most evil witch in the County, the horror begins…
